This track came about after a visit to Beaver Island, the largest island in Lake Michigan with my childhood pal Mike for an exciting camping trip in the great north.
We explored the island in a rented 1974 Chevy Suburban we picked up at the dock when we arrived through the morning mist - almost felt like we were in a Jules Verne novel. No one was there to greet us except the Suburban sitting alone in the parking lot. There was a note on the dash explaining that this was our rental and we should enjoy our visit. OK. This truck had seen better days but still could manage Michigan weather so we took it despite having floor boards you could see the road through. We figured, what the hell, let's go. We were captive by the island wave-passing motorists who lifted their forefinger off the steering wheel bidding you a "fine day" as they drove by.
We dropped some acid and proceeded to venture around the island which was the way to go. We embarked down Hannigan Road which led to the journey down West Side Rd which at the time was less than ideal. Lots of bumps along the way so our empty beer bottles rattled across the metal floor of the beast as we maneuvered our way to the south end of the island where we finally came to a stop at the lighthouse. A good time was had by all.
